Introduction Application Specification Advantage Of Using Nanotechnology Manual And Maintenance Safety And Package

Contact angle is one of the common ways to measure the wettability of a surface or material. Wetting refers to the study of how a liquid deposited on a solid (or liquid) substrate spreads out. There are a variety of techniques used to measure contact angle; among these techniques, the recently developed methods known as droplet-shape analysis have attracted a lot of attentions. Contact angle measurement using sessile drop technique is a droplet-shape analysis method.

The sessile drop contact angle is measured by a contact angle goniometer using an optical subsystem to capture the profile of a pure liquid on a solid substrate. Older systems used a microscope optical system with a back light. Current-generation systems employ high resolution cameras and software to capture and analyze the contact angle.

  • Static and dynamic contact angle measurement by sessile drop method
  • Surface tension and interfacial tension of fluids using pendant drop method
  • Measuring surface free energy of solids and coatings

Details of technical specifications are presented in the following Table.

Surface energy and contact angle measurement tests (especially dynamic CA) are generally used to characterize super-hydrophobic surfaces which necessarily have nano-scale roughnesses and/or hierarchical micro/nanostructures.

  • Place the device on a flat, vibration-less table, in a room free from dust, high humidity and straight sunlight.
  • Connect the device main power cable to a single-phase power supply.
  • Connect the device to the computer through the USB cable and then run the software.
  • Adjust the height of the sample stage and camera, in a way that camera becomes completely focused on the syringe tip.
  • Put the level on the sample stage and balance the stage through the screws beneath it.
  • Detach the syringe and fill it with distilled water.
  • Put the injection system on the “Home position” and then place the filled syringe in it.
  • Evacuate probable trapped air in the syringe using the software.
  • Put the sample on the stage and make sure the camera is able to capture the image of surface.
  • Inject a small droplet (about 5 µl) on the surface and measure the static contact angle.
  • To measure the dynamic contact angle, increase the volume of injected fluid at a constant speed.
  • The difference between advancing and receding values shows the contact angle hysteresis which is an indication of wettability.
  • To measure the surface free energy, conducting two or three contact angle tests with different fluids according to the standards is necessary.
  • For more details on how to use the device, refer to the device catalog and user guide.
  • Avoid pouring water or any chemicals on the device body and its components.
  • After finishing the measurement process, turn off the device and unplug it.
  • Avoid excessive tightening of the syringe screws and applying too much force on them.
  • Avoid manipulating the device and in case of occurrence of any problem, contact with company's experts.
